“Nevertheless, each person should live as a believer in whatever situation the Lord has assigned to them, just as God has called them.”
— 1 Corinthians 7:17 (NIV)
Well…apparently, I’m blogging again.
I didn’t exactly see this coming. Then again, if I’ve learned anything over the last fourteen years, it’s that most of the important things in my life haven’t happened the way I thought they would. In fact, I would never have imagined the life I have now!
If you are new here, let me give you a quick backstory. In 2012, while I was separated and going through a divorce, I felt the urge to blog my Journey to Ordinary. During the process, I fell madly in love with Jesus and haven’t stopped talking about Him since.
Several years later, I tried blogging again—four posts, to be exact—about life with my daughter Mable, who has autism, and some of the unexpected and often hilarious adventures that come with it: Autism Keeps Me Giggling.
In full transparency, Mable’s crisis took over, and breathing one day at a time while clinging to Jesus was all I had the strength to do.
However, Jesus would not be Jesus if He left me alone to figure it out.
“If your heart is broken, you’ll find God right there; if you’re kicked in the gut, he’ll help you catch your breath.”
— Psalm 34:18 (MSG)
Goodness, how my life has changed. Every day is filled with gratitude—not because my life is easy, perfect, or without troubles…FAR FROM IT! Somewhere along the way, I began learning to choose gratitude—not because every circumstance was good, but because God was still good in every circumstance. And as a reminder of that choice, for the last several years my laptop background has carried the same simple words: “Bloom Where You Are Planted.”
Lately, though, I’ve found myself wondering if blooming where I’m planted means more than simply being grateful for where I am. Maybe it also means being willing to use what God has placed in my hands, right here, right now.
I don’t know exactly where this blog will go or who will ever read it. Maybe that’s not mine to figure out.
Maybe my part is simply to be faithful enough to write.
This is a place for ordinary stories, honest conversations, unexpected laughter, and the grace of God woven through all of it.
I don’t have all the answers. I’m simply learning to be faithful with the life God has given me—to notice Him in the ordinary, trust Him in the hard places, laugh along the way, and bloom right where I’ve been planted.
So, grab a cup of coffee and stay awhile. Maybe somewhere in these stories, you’ll recognize a little bit of your own.
One thing I’ve always loved doing is ending my posts with a song that has spoken to me. I hope this one encourages you as well.
